Aerial Tour of Ontario

Filming Things in Ontario: Episode 4

Contributor Thejgordon used a DJI Mavic Pro to create this highly cinematic tour through the country-within-a-country known as Ontario, Canada.  The video will take you all around Canada's most populous province, which offers a unique blend of natural and urban scenery.  In quick succession, you'll get glimpses of the province's vast wetlands and forests, the wide-open waters of Lake Ontario, the gleaming cosmopolitan city of Toronto, and reversing shots of the mighty Niagara Falls (which sits on the US-Canadian border).

Top contributor Majestic, winner of one of the first Drone Video of the Week awards, is the master of drone timelapse photography - particularly with major cities around the world.  In this video, you'll get a marvelous dronelapse view of Toronto, Canada.  Shot at night, the video brilliantly brings to life this city on Lake Ontario, the center of a metropolis of over 7 million.  Watch it for the amazing perspective of one of the most impressive skylines amongst the North American cities.

Webster Falls, Scarborough Bluffs, and More

Canadian Nature

One of the more attractive aspects of Toronto, Canada is the accessibility of "nature" within such a short distance of the center city.  Even as Greater Toronto now exceeds 7 million in population, some of the most beautiful natural scenery remains in pristine condition even as it become semi-abosorbed into the metropolis.  In this video, Fujibara Films gives us an aerial view of some of these natural sites of Greater Toronto, including Webster Falls on the western end of Lake Ontario and Scarborough Bluffs just east of the center city.

Chris Broc...

Chris Brockhurst created this beautiful capture of a couple of idyllic semi-rural spots in Ontario, Canada.  Port Perry is located on Lake Scugog, a large artificial lake located about an hour's drive northeast of Toronto.  It's known for its well-preserved Victorial area downtown.  Pickering is located on the northern shore of Lake Ontario, about 40 km (around 25 mi.) east of Toronto.  An old town that was once considered a stand-alone community, it's considered an outlying suburb or Toronto.

Ontario's Nottawasaga Bay sits at the south end of Gulf Bay, itself an eastern extension of Lake Huron, part of the Great Lakes system of North America.  This is a quintissential Great Lakes scene, with a rocky shoreline backed up by seemingly endless forests.  In this amazing video, top contributor Elnaz, a native of Ontario, flew her drone over the bay just as the ice was beginning to break with the approach of spring.  The aerial perspective is amazing.  The video was shot with a DJI Phantom 4 drone.

In a temperate climate like Ontario, Canada, the transition from winter to spring is as profound as that from summer to fall.  The transition can occur quite quickly, depending on weather conditions.  In this amazing video, contributor elnaz555 filmed the Ontario landscape over a three week period and used timelapse editing to put together this remarkable aerial perspective of Canada's largest province turning from winter to spring.  The aerial footage in the video was captured with a DJI Phantom 4 drone.

Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls

When you think of the world's most famous waterfalls, Niagara Falls is near the top of the list. Situated on the border between Canada and the USA, it's a cataract system of three falls on the Niagara River, which connects two of North America's Great Lakes: Huron and Erie.  At peak times, the waterfall sees about almost six million cubic ft. of water (about 168k cubic m) flows over its 167 ft. (51 m) drop every minute.  In this video, you wil get a bird's eye view of the mighty waterfall, compliments of contributor Nonexistent Jay.

One of the most beautiful bits of "natural" scenery in Canada's Ontario province isn't actually natural - it's a park comprised of man made islands.  Long Sault was an area of rapids on the St. Lawrence River, just upstream from Cornwall.  In the late 1950's, a massive hydroengineering project resulted in the flooding of some of the mainland and creating new islands in the river.  Now a park, contributor Elnaz555 captured the beautiful spot in this amazing drone video.

Lake Huron's Flowerpot Island

Flowerpot Island

Where's Fu...

Anyone who thinks that Ontario is all about Toronto should watch this beautiful drone video of Flowerpot Island, which sits off the end of a remote peninsula of Lake Huron.  It's near the town of Tobermoy, a small town which sits at the end of the Bruce Peninsula on the middle of the five North American Great Lakes.  Fujibara Films used a drone to create this beautiful spot in rural Ontario, just a few hours drive but a world apart from the skyscrapers of Toronto to the south.  This is Canada's Cottage Country at its best.

Contributor Elnaz555 created this beautiful drone video of a region of rural Ontario, Canada.  Muskoka is a region west of Georgian Bay, a gigantic Bay of Lake Huron that could almost be the sixth Great Lake (in fact, it's not much smaller than Lake Ontario, the smallest of the five main Great Lakes).  Apart from Lake Huron, Muskoka has over 1,500 other lakes, and it's an extremely popular cabin/cottage location for urban dwellers in the vast metropolis known as Greater Toronto to the south.

AirVuz contributor Pierre used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone to create this marvelous aerial view of Canada's Lake Kashwakamak.  The long, narrow lake is one of the larger amongst the thousands of lakes which lie in the (not precisely defined) Cottage Country of central Ontario, between Toronto and Ottawa.  The narrow Kashwakamak is about nine mi. long (around 15 km) and covers close to 3k acres.    The lake is part of the Canadian Mississippi River, a tributary of the Ottawa River which bears no relation to its better-known American namesake.

Kingston: Lake Ontario's Eastern Shore

Sunset in Kingston, Ontario

Daniel DeG...

Contributor Daniel DeGagne used a DJI Mavic Air fitted with polarizing filters to create this beautiful sunset aerial of Kingston, Ontario.  Kingston is the primary city on the eastern side of Lake Ontario, opposite Toronto.  Among other things, it's a gateway to the Thousand Islands area in the St. Lawrence River, into which Lake Ontario empties.  Kingston is one of the oldest cities in Ontario, and was built on the site of a French fort called Frontenac.  For several years in the 19th century, it was Canada's capital.

Kawartha Lakes

Kawartha Lakes | Ontario, Canada | 2019 Drone Tour

Shaun Rick...

In this drone video by Shaun Rickard, you'll get a captioned aerial tour of the Kawartha Lakes area northeast of Toronto, Canada.  It's a well-known lake district which lies a bit outside of the orbit of Greater Toronto but is still easily accessible from the city and particularly from its eastern suburbs.  The video features footage of the following locations in the area: Forest Hill Lodge, Lower Buckhorn Lake, the Westwind Inn, the Beachwood Resort, Stoney Lake, Burleigh Falls, and more.

Dundas Peak

Dundas Peak Sunrise

Baileyroseking used a DJI Mavic Pro and a Sony ground camera to capture the beauty of Ontario's Dundas Peak on a beautiful fall morning.  Dundas lies just to the west of Hamilton, at the western end of Lake Ontario.  A substantial city of over a half-million in its own right, Hamilton is now considered part of the greater Toronto-Hamilton metropolitan area, a metropolis of over seven million.  The area around Dundas Peak is in the transition zone between the rural and urban sides of Ontario.

Daniel Mol...

Top contributor Daniel Molina used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone to create this beautiful video of a wintertime landscape in Ontario, Canada.  It was shot in the area of Muskoka, which is in the central part of Canada's most populous province.  Muskoka is located a bit over a two hour drive northwest of Toronto.  It is a quintessential Canadian "cottage country" region, dotted with over 1,600 lakes.  It sits to the east of Georgia Bay, a northern extension of Lake Huron, one of the five Great Lakes.

Port Perry and Pickering

Aerial Winter Views in Canada | DJI Mavic Pro

Chris Broc...

Contributor Chris Brockhust used a DJI Mavic Pro to create this aerial video of a couple of beautiful spots northeast of Toronto in Ontario, Canada.  Pickering is a town on Lake Ontario, about an hour's drive northeast of downtown Toronto following the lake.  One of the older towns in Ontario (it was settled in the 1770's), it's now considered an eastern suburb within the Greater Toronto metropolitan area.  Port Perry lies to the northeast of Pickering, on the shores of Lake Scugog, and remains outside of Toronto's immediate orbit.

Kawartha Lakes, Hamilton, and Seagrave

Filming Ontario: Extended Drone Nature Cut (HD)

Contributor TheJGordon created this beautiful drone video of three spots in rural Ontario, Canada.  The first is Kawartha Lakes, a municipality north of Toronto.  The second is around Hamilton, a port which sits at the western end of Lake Ontario.  The third area is around Seagrave, located northeast of Toronto and just to the west of Lake Scucog, one of Ontario's largest lakes.  All three areas are with a 90 minute drive of central Toronto, the great metropolis on Lake Ontario.

Forests and Deforestation near Dryden

Boreal Forests of Northern Ontario

Contributor TannerNG used a drone to tell the story of how deforestation is affecting landscapes in the  Ontario province of Canada.  It was filmed around the town of Dryden, which is in the far western part of the province.  The area is northwest of Lake Superior, not far from the western border with Manitoba.  The video shows how the logging and paper industries have cleared part of the area of its ancient forests.  It also shows the contrast with the area further north, which has been comparatively untouched.

Tobermory: Tip of the Bruce Peninsula

Filming Ontario: Tobermory, Bruce Peninsula (Video Recap) DJI Mavic Pro

Contributor THEJGORDON created this excellent drone video of the beautiful area around the town of Tobermory in rural Ontario, Canada.  The town lies at the northern tip of a landform called the Bruce Peninsula.  The Peninsula extends into Lake Huron, dividing the main body of the lake from Georgian Bay to the east.  The position of the peninsula relative to shipping routes has led to numerous shipwrecks here, and for that reason Tobermory is sometimes called the world's freshwater SCUBA diving capital.

Chaudière Falls and Ottawa

Ottawa-Gatineau Chaudière Falls

For a first upload to AirVuz, new contributor bvfotografia brings us this excellent drone video of Canada's Chaudière Falls.  The Falls lie just west of the national capital city of Ottawa on the city's namesake river, which forms the boundary between the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.  The video features some excellent aerial footage of the falls, Chaudière Bridge and Island (which lie just downstream from the falls), Victoria Island and the Portage Bridge (just a bit further downstream), and the city of Ottawa.

(15 km) wide and about .5 mi. (.8 km) wide.

South Ajax and Pickering

South Ajax & Pickering in the Fall | Ontario, Canada | 2019 Drone Tour | 4K

Shaun Rick...

Greater Toronto (Canada) has grown in part by pulling once-independent towns and villages along the north shore of Lake Ontario into its orbit.  At the same time though, many of these areas have been able to retain much of their attractive natural scenery even as they become in effect Toronto suburbs.  In this drone video by Shaun Rickard, you'll see two towns which lie close to the eastern edge of Greater Toronto: South Ajax and  Pickering.  The latter lies just to the east of Scarborough Bluffs, west of the former.

Whitby and Oshawa

Filming Things Episode 01 (DJI MAVIC PRO)

In this drone video by AirVuz contributor THEJORDON, you'll get some aerial views of the area which lies just at the easternmost extent of the vast area known variously as Greater Toronto or the Golden Horseshoe.  It was filmed in the vicinity of Whitby and Oshawa, the next two towns to the east of Ajax.  Located roughly an hour's drive east of downtown Toronto, these areas have retained much of their original natural scenery even as they have become in effect outer suburbs of Canada's largest city.

Sandbanks Provincial Park, Prince Edward County

Lake Superior's Thunder Bay is a giant inlet which sits on the northwestern shore of the King of the Great Lakes.  At its western end sits the city of Thunder Bay, a town with a population of a bit over 100k which is (along with Duluth) one of only two real cities on the largest of the five North American Great Lakes.  The eastern end of Thunder Bay backs up onto some of the most beautiful and remote natural scenery in Canada; check it out near the peak Fall color season in this beautiful drone video by Drone Giant.

Kawartha Lakes Drone Views

Back country remote island camping on the Kawartha Lakes in Ontario, Canada

Shaun Rick...

Kawartha Lakes is a county located northeast of Toronto, Canada. It represents the gateway to the fabled Cottage Country of Ontario, a vast area of the province containing thousands of lakes and hundreds of thousands of lakeside getaways known here as cottages.  In this drone video by Shaun Rickard, you'll get some great aerial views of taken from a camping trip on an island of one of the Kawartha Lakes.  Despite the backwoods feel, much of the county lies within a 90 minute drive of downtown Toronto.
