Meteora Flight

Meteora is a spectacular rock formation in the Thessaly region of north-central Greece.  These immense pillars represent a geological phenomenon which is essentially unique in the world.  A group of monasteries were built on the pillars, six of which remain standing today. Contributor Rickrayfilms treats us to a spectacular aerial tour of the area, which is considered second in importance only to the Holy Mountain of Athos in its importance to Eastern Orthodoxy.

Split & Zadar | Croatia | 4K Drone Video

Zadar and Split both lie on the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia, on the Adriatic Sea.  Both feature stunning beaches, Roman and Venetian ruins, and architecture spanning centuries.  The allure of Split led to it being chosen as the site of the fictional Diocletian's Palace in the HBO series Game of Thrones.  Top contributor Hamza Mujtba was nominated for the 2017 AirVuz Drone Video Awards in the Cities category for this amazing aerial video featuring these two beautiful cities.

Mostar. Bosnia and Herzegovina.

An important administrative center of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mostar is perhaps best known for its bridge over the Neretva River, one of the most recognizable historical sights in Eastern Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage site.  Alex Avsharov uses his DJI Mavic Air drone to give us a breathtaking aerial view of the iconic and well preerved ancient city, which was part of Yugoslavia for much of the 20th century.

Epic Bulgaria 2 - Submerged Church "St. Ivan Rilski" in 4K

Drone pilot Blagoy Mamchilov uses his DJI drone to create this spectacular video of the St. Ivan Rilski church in Central Bulgaria.  Located in the town of Zapalnya, the area around the church was flooded to make way for the Jrebchevo hydroelectric project in the 1960's.  Now sitting in the dam's reservoir, the partially submerged church makes for an amazing aerial view as you'll see from the video!

Parthenon, Acropolis, Athens, Greece

The capital and most important city of Greece is Athens, and the center of Athens is the Parthenon, the ancient Greek temple built atop the Acropolis (or citadel) in the center of the city. Contributor georgelek1966@hotmail flew his drone over this important UNESCO World Heritage cultural site, the centerpiece of which is the Parthenon temple, constructed in 447 BC and dedicated to the Greek goddess Athena.

Meeting of Cultures - Bosnia

Bosnia Herzegovina is the most ethnically and religiously diverse of the former Yugoslavian countries.  Unlike other parts of the Balkans under Ottoman rule, the people of Bosnia largely adopted the Islam, although the Muslim majority peacefully exists with Catholic and Eastern Orthodox minorities.  Contributor Dan Drone had these ideas in mind when he created this amazing drone video from a trip to this Balkan land.

Freeride Ski at National Park Galicica - Ohrid Macedonia by 2S & Ski Macedonia

While it is not as prominent as other alpine areas, the mountains of Macedonia in Europe's Balkan region offer spectacular skiing opportunities.  Most of the country is covered in steep hills and mountains, with the greatest concentrations in its northwestern and southern regions.  Stojan2s created this epic drone video from a ski trip to the Galicica National Park ski area, situated in the soutwestern corner of the country near Ohrid.

BULGARIA CENTER OF SOFIA!

Bulgaria's capital city Sofia sits near the western end of the country.  Dating to the Roman era, the city's importance derives from its location relative to three mountain passes critical to ancient trade routes running to and from the Black Sea, at one point the world's most important body of water.  Using a DJI Phantom 4 Professional drone, AirVuz contributor Gkoutanoudisg gives us tour of this  well preserved in the foothills of the Balkan Mountains.

Contributor DronAlb created this marvelous aerial overview of Tirana, the capital city of Albania.  The city lies a bit west of the geographic center of the country, still some distance from the Adriatic coastline.  Like much of the country, it is surrounded by mountains and hills.  Founded in the early 17th century, Tirana has seen its tourism grow since the civil war in the former Yugoslavia (immediately to Albania's north) subsided.

Athos, The Holy Mountain

Athos is a mountain lying on a peninsula of the same name in the northeastern corner of Greece.  Called the Holy Mountain because of its important Eastern Orthodox monasteries, it is one of the most recognized sites in Greece.  In this video, contributor Icarus Aerial Filming gives us a spectacular bird's eye view of the amazing mountain and its well-preserved cultural sites, an area of immense importance to the Eastern Orthodox religion.

Rila Mountain

The Rila Mountain Range is in southwestern Bulgaria. It's considered a sub-range of the Balkan Mountains. Although the peaks are not as high as other European mountain ranges, the highest peak in the Rila range (Musala, which stands 2.9k meters or roughly 10k ft) is the highest peak of the Balkans and the tallest mountain between the the Alps and the Caucasus.  Contributor Blogjoy Momchilov used a drone to treat us to an aerial view of this stunning mountain.

Adrenaline Rush - Buzludzha Winter Edition

One of Bulgaria's most iconic sites is the Buzludzha  monument, which sits atop the Buzludzha peak situated near the geographic center of this Balkan nation.  In this video, contributor Droneman used a drone to create an impressive aerial view of this important structure, built to celebrate the Bulgarian Communist Party. Funded with public contributions, the monument was constructed over a ten year period from 1971 to 1981.

Croatia's Korcula and Mljet Islands are two of the larger islands which lie off the country's long Dalmation Coast in the Adriatic Sea.  Korcula is the larger of the two, and is the largest island in the country after the northern island of Krk.  Contributor Amaury Descours used a DJI Phantom 3 Pro drone to aerially capture these two islands, which have played an important role in the affairs of the region for thousands of years and are now among the world's most popular sailing locations.

Lake Ohrid is one of the most spectacular bits of natural scenery in the Balkans.  One of the largest lakes in the region, it forms part of the border between Macedonia and Albania.  It is one of a handful of UNESCO World Heritage sites to be designated as both a natural and cultural site.  In this video, top contributor Uncle Damn gives us a bird's eye view of the area around the city of Ohrid on the lake's northeastern shore, one of the most popular destinations on this deep, crystal blue lake.

Istria, the Adriatic Gem

Athos is technically a monastic state within the state of Greece, a status which has some similarities with that of the Vatican.

Top contributor Minglam put together this awesome aerial tour of the the two most well known areas of the Balkan nation of Macedonia.  The first part of the video is shot around Lake Ohrid, the large lake which forms part of the border with Albania to the west.  The lake is not only spectacularly beautiful but it's dotted with many sites of cultural interest, also shown in the video.  The film then transitions to Skopje, Macedonia's capital city, which lies in a valley in the northern part of the country.

In this video, First Production gives us a drone's eye view of Zemun, Serbia.  Once a truly independent city, it has more or less been absorbed into the greater Belgrade area with the growth of the (nearby) Serbian capital city.   Like much of Serbia, the area around Zemun has been inhabited by humans for over two milennia.  It lies on the Danube River, just upstream from Belgrade and a rather further distance downstream from Novi Sad, Serbia's #2 urban center.

First Production created this beautiful drone video of the Serbian capital city Belgrade, decked out for the Christmas holiday season.  The video was shot on a DJI Inspire drone with a Zenmuse X5 camera.  Belgrade is the largest city in Serbia by good measure, and is the last (ie downtream) of the great cities on the Danube River, which runs through Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest before it reaches the Serbian capital city en route to the Black Sea.
