FPV Cruising the Oregon Coast

Oregon Pacific Coastal Cruise

Cruise the coastline of Oregon in the USA's Pacific Northwest in this fantastic first person view (FPV) drone video by AirVuz contributor and pilot LoftyWorx.  The video was shot over a famous rock formation known as the Seal Rocks, which is basically a ledge that runs the length of about 2.5 mi. (around 4 km) parallel to the shoreline.  It's located in Lincoln County roughly a third of the way down Oregon's Pacific Ocean coastline from north to south.  The video was captured with a GoPro Hero 9 camera.

Everett, Washington

Everett Washington in 4k | Aerial Views of Everett Marina & Jetty Island

Check out this fantastic drone video of the waterfront of Everett, Washington, compliments of AirVuz contributor SkyStudioWest.  Located about 40 km (25 mi.) north of downtown Seattle, Everett is one of the largest of the Seattle suburbs.  It is situated on Possession Sound, an inlet of the larger Puget Sound.  The video features footage of the Everett Marina, as well as Jetty Island.  The latter is a man-made island, which is about three km long (two mi.) and is uninhabited; it was created with dredging from the Snohomish River.

Check out this excellent 4k drone video of the twin-span Tacoma Narrows Bridge near Seattle, Washington, compliments of contributor cward360.  The older of the two bridges over the Puget Sound strait was completed in 1950, replacing the infamous Galloping Gertie bridge which collapsed within six months of opening in 1940.  Its main span of 853 meters (about 2.8k ft.) made it the world's third-longest suspension bridge when it opened.  The newer span opened in 2007 and now handles eastbound traffic.

Washington's Alder Dam

Alder Dam with Mavic 2 Pro

Yi Jun Luo...

Alder Dam in the USA's Pacific Northwest was once one of the tallest in the world.  It sits on the Nisqually River, which drains a portion of the Cascades Mountains into Puget Sound.  The dam was built during World War II to supply electrical power to nearby Tacoma, which needed electricity to power its wartime production factories.  Seen here in this drone video by Yi Jun Luo, the dam stands 100 meters tall (around 330 ft.), 490 meters (around 1.6k ft.) wide, and an astonishing 37 meters (120 ft.) thick.

Palouse Falls is a well-known waterfall in the USA's Pacific Northwest state of Washington.  It's located on its namesake river in the southeastern corner of the state, near its confluence with the Snake River.  Through two drops, the waterfall has a total height of 60 meters or just under 200 ft.  In 2009, a kayaker ran the falls, setting the unofficial world record for the biggest drop on a kayak.  Check out Polouse Falls from above in this fantastic drone video by AirVuz contributor Mavic and Goose.

Abandoned Oregon Paper Mill

Oregon's Blue Heron Paper Mill

60 Seconds...

The USA's Pacific Northwest was once home to a huge forest products industry, with hundreds of saw and paper mills around the region.   With the rise of much tighter environmental restrictions, high labor costs, and tough competition from foreign producers, the timber products industry in Washington and Oregon has been decimated.  In this video, contributor 60 Seconds gives us a bird's eye view of a paper mill in Blue Heron, OR which succumbed to the poor conditions and was abandoned several years ago.

From the sunny beaches in southern California, to the wild, lush forests of northern Washington, nearly every mile of the USA's Pacific coast is worth a stop. Sfdrones takes several moments in Oregon and Washington to capture the beauty of winter clinging to the mountains and trees. The choice to edit the piece in black and white was a risk, but we believe it gives the viewer a sense of the beauty and stillness the pilot felt while taking in his surroundings.

Oregon's Umpqua River

Umpqua River, Oregon, October 2020 roadtrip before starting a new contract flying gig

AirVuz contributor HermosaDrones brings us this beautiful drone video from the Umpqua River in the USA's Pacific Northwest.  The river runs a westerly course of about 180 km (around 110 mi.) through Oregon; its mouth is near Winchester Bay, about two-thirds of the way down the state's Pacific Ocean coastline.  Draining a basin of about 12k square km (4.6k square mi.), the Umpqua is particularly well known for its bass and shad fishing.  The valleys through which it flows is considered the heart of the timber industry in southern Oregon.

Home to just over 11,000 people, including AirVuz contributor and pilot pfritz66, Sandy, Oregon is located in Clackamas County at the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range. It was settled in 1853 near its namesake Sandy River, the city serves as the western gateway to the Mount Hood Corridor. Our local pilot has taken out his DJI Mavic 2 Pro to give us an aerial look at the fall foliage, farm lands, gushing Sandy River, and gorgeous mountains; all are just a short distance from the city of Portland.

Mt. Rainier from Above

Mount Rainier Fresh Snow and Forest

AirVuz contributor mikereidphotography used an Autel Evo 2 Pro to create this stunning wintertime aerial view of Mt. Rainier, one of the USA's tallest and most famous volcanoes.  Located about 60 mi. (around 100 km) southeast of downtown Seattle, Washington, Mt. Rainier has a peak elevation of 14.4k ft. above sea level (about 4.4k m), making it the tallest mountain in the Cascade range and the most prominent of all mountains in the USA.  Although it hasn't erupted since the late 1900's, it has the potential to do so catastrophically.

Pacific Northwest FPV Trip

Mitchell M...

Increasingly, first person view (FPV) pilots are planning and making trips primarily to fly their FPV mini quads, preferably in suitably epic spots.  That's what this excellent piece by AirVuz contributor and FPV pilot Mitchell Mullins is about.  Having become a proficient FPV pilot, he and a couple of his friends headed to the Pacific Northwest region, home of some of the USA's most spectacular natural scenery.  Here they spent their trip, highlights of which you'll see in the video, which made the FPV Pilots to Watch list in June, 2020.
