This video won the X-Factor category at the 6th Annual NYCDFF.

Kaliningrad: Russia's Baltic Exclave

Winter in Kalingrad

If you looked at a map of the Baltic Sea region, you would think that the port city of Kaliningrad was part of Poland or Lithuania.  In fact, it's part of Russia, despite having no physical connection to the country.  Once known as Königsberg under centuries of German rule, the city was annexed by the USSR after the end of World War II, and it remained part of Russia following the Soviet Union's dissolution.  That is due in part to the fact that the city is the closest thing that Russia has to an ice-free Baltic port.

Russia: North to South, East to West

At over 6.6 million square miles, Russia is the largest county in the world by a considerable margin. Covering more than 1/8 of Earth’s inhabited land area, it is the ninth most populous country. Being so large, the geography is vast and, as you can see in this drone video of Russia by Silaero23, incredibly stunning. There are stretches of plains, forests, and tundra, mountain ranges along the south, extensive coastline along the Arctic and Pacific Oceans, thousands of rivers, lakes, and so much more.

This aerial reel is sixty-seconds of jam-packed shots from across Russia, courtesy of Bogdan Sinayskiy. He’ll open with cars traveling through the curving mountains, then take a dolly-effect shot through a crevice in the mountains. Next up are top-down shots of drift cars doing burn outs and a boxer practicing his skills on a rooftop. The piece continues with wind surfers, swimmers, the St. Petersburg's Lakhta Center and more shot on the DJI Mavic Pro and Air, the Phantom 4 Pro, and Inspire X5 with an Olympus 45mm.
