Epicspence created this stunning drone video from the heart of southern Indonesia.  The islands covered are part of the Lesser Sunda Islands, a chain which extends east from Java and includes the provinces of Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara.  The specific islands featured in the video include Bali (including Ubud in the Bali Highlands), Nusa Lembongan (one of a group of small islands lying to the southeast of Bali), and Labuan Bajo (located on the western end of the island of Flores).

Contributor Mavicgrapher used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this amazing aerial video of downtown Jakarta, Indonesia.  Like many cities in Southeast Asia, the Indonesian capital city has seen a boom in skyscraper construction in recent decades.  As of 2018, there were nearly three dozen buildings in the city of over 200 meters (about 650 ft.) in height, almost all of which are less than ten years old.  In this video, you will see this skyline up close, both during the day and at night.

Mount Bromo

Award winning contributor and drone pilot Fabio Knoll created this epic aerial look at Mt. Bromo, an active volcano in East Java, Indonesia.  Named after a Hindu god, the volcano is part of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.  The volcano has been in a state of eruption or near-eruption during much of the 21st century thus far, leading to numerous warnings and advisories.  Nevertheless, it continues to be one of the biggest tourist attractions in Java.

Contributor and drone pilot Thib from Above, who travels the world making drone videos, created this epic aerial tour of the northern and western parts of Sumatra.  The island is oriented on a northwest-southeast axis.  Whereas the central and southeastern parts of the island have a thin strip of mountains to the west and a wider strip of rainforest to the east, the northwestern parts of Sumatra is mostly mountainous and it contains the island's highest peaks.

Lombok is a medium sized island lying to the east of Bali in Indonesia.  The tiny Gili Islands, which lie just across the Lombok Strait, have become a magnet for travelers seeking a more secluded vacation spot.  Both Lombok and the Gili's are part of the province of West Nusa Tenggara. Contributor Dronecult brought a drone on a trip to Lombok and these islets.  His drone flights allowed him to create this amazing aerial view of a true tropical paradise with shimmering blue waters and white sand beaches.

Labuan Bajo/Komodo National Park from Above

The Komodo islands are home to the world’s largest species of lizard, the Komodo dragon. Top contributor Big Head Greg flew a DJI Phantom 4 drone over the islands' national park (a UNESCO World Heritage natural site) to capture its lush green landscape. The Indonesian capital city of Jakarta, which lies on the western end of the island of Java, is enormous by any measure.  The extended metropolitan Jakarta area has over 30 million inhabitants, making it the second largest urban conglomeration in the entire world after the Greater Tokyo area of Japan.   Contributor Aerial Norway traveled to Jakarta with a drone, and created an amazing video showing this gigantic metropolis from a bird's eye perspective.

Ijen is a complex of volcanoes lying on the eastern end of Java, the most populous of the 17k+ islands in the Indonesian archipelago.  The volcano is known for a highly unusual looking blue colored fire in one of the craters, which is due to the presence of sulphur.  Award winning aerial cinematographers Nava Visual Communication flew a drone over the various volcano craters, and seeing the aerial video is akin to taking a virtual hike on the road to Kawah Ijen.

Central Java from the Sky

Top contributor and drone pilot used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this epic aerial view of the central part of Java in Indonesia.  While the island is by far the most heavily populated in Indonesia, most of its people live on its eastern and western ends, in and around the large cities.  The central part of the island is much less heavily populated and has retained more of the traditional Javanese cultural elements.  Most of this video was filmed in the Yogyakarta region and on the Dieng Plateau.

Many of Indonesia's volcanoes pose spectacular hiking opportunities.  With modest elevations, hiking to the tops of these "peaks" can yield spectacular views into their craters.  In this video, contributor DroneCult aerially filmed amazing hiking trips to Mt. Bromo and Ijen Crater, both of which are in East Java (the province which lies at the eastern end of the island of Java).  The latter of the two volcanoes is taller, with an elevation of about 2.8k (9.2k ft) above sea level.

Harau Valley lies on the west coast of the massive Indonesian island of Sumatra (Sumatera) in Indonesia, between the cities of Pekanbaru and Bukittingg.  It is a magnificent area of canyons and rock formations with lush green forests and rice fields in between.  Contributor Riojaya's drone video of this amazing area of the world's sixth largest island was selected as a Finalist for the AirVuz Drone Video of the Week Contest in August, 2018.

North Sumatra is home to some of the most incredible natural scenery in Indonesia.  While the southern parts of the gigantic island are known for their rainforests, the northern part of Sumatra is much more mountainous, with many waterfalls.  In most places, the hills run right to the sea, so the area is blessed with spectacular ports and harbors surrounded by impressive hills.  This video, shot with a DJI Mavic Pro by JJong, will give you a bird's eye view of this amazing region.

Jungle Life: Drone View of a Jungle Village

Top contributor AerialRhianna created this epic drone video of Bukit Lawang, a village in the heart of the jungle of North Sumatra in Indonesia.  The village sits on the Bahorok River, which flows eastward through the province before discharging into the Malacca Strait.  Bukit Lawang is home to the the largest animal sanctuary of Sumatran orangutan, and also the main eastern access point to the Gunung Leuser National Park.

Labengki is a small island just off the coast of Sulawesi, the massive island which is Indonesia's fourth largest and is the eleventh largest island in the world.  Labengki lies off of Southeast Sulawesi, which occupies the largest of the four peninsulas which make up much of the island's land area.  Contributor Henry's drone flew a DJI Phantom 4 drone about Labengki and created a beautiful aerial video showing this island from above.

Beautiful East Indonesia

Sulawesi in eastern Indonesia is one of the world's most unusually shaped islands.  Most of its considerable land area is on four peninsulas that jut out from a small center.  In this video, contributor r_prayugo gives us a bird's eye view of the people and landscape of the southern peninsula, called South Sulawesi.  The indigenous people in this region are called the Toraja, meaning "people of the uplands" referring to the mountainous nature of this part of the giant island.

Contributor Robert Ligtvoet created a magnificent travel video of Bali and Flores, two of the most important islands in southern Indonesia.  Bali, which lies to the east of Java, is the better known of the two.  Its legendary beaches, Hindu temples, and highlands are some of the top tourist destinations in the entire country.  Flores is actually larger area-wise but considerably less well known.  It lies three major islands to the east of Bali, after Lombok and Sumbawa, in the province of East Nusa Tenggara.
