Bamburgh is a village off the coast of Northumberland, England. With a population of less than 500, you’re sure to find a wide open beach or two to take your horse out for a ride and watch the sunrise. That is exactly what drone pilot Jamie Dob does in this beautiful drone video of the English coastline. See the sun rise over the calm ocean waters, while the morning glow basks Bamburgh Castle (a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1952) in dazzling light. This video was a Drone Video of the Week nominee in May, 2019.

It was filmed around the city of Newcastle upon Tyne, the largest city in the region, which was one of the most important cities of the Industrial Revolution.  Originally part of Northumberland, it became the core of a new county called Tyne and Wear in 1974.  The video includes spectacular views of the city and the surrounding area, including the iconic St. Mary's Lighthouse.

Northumberland lies in the northern corner of England, just to the south of the Scottish Borders.  The region played an important role in many of the English-Scottish wars which occurred throughout the centuries, and later in supplying coal to fuel England's Industrial Revolution.  In this video, contributor Jamie Dob treats us to an excellent aerial tour of this important place in the North of England, which was once an important center of Roman Catholic resistance to the Anglican Church.

Souter Lighthouse is a lighthouse located in the village of Marsden in northern England. It's near the town of South Shields, in the northeastern county of Tyne & Wear.  It was the first lighthouse in the world to be designed and built specifically to use AC electric current.  The lighthouse was a much-needed aid to navigation due to this coastline being the most dangerous in the country.  See this amazing lighthouse from a bird's eye perspective with this epic drone video from Aerial Video Works.

Brian Priest Aerial Images created this brilliant drone video of the giant Northumerlandia earth sculpture in northern England, which was created from material excavated from an adjoining surface coal mine.  The sculpture, which is in the shape of a reclining nude female, was created from material excavated from one of England's largest open cast coal mines.  It's in County Northumberland, which played a key role in the Industrial Revolution by producing massive quantities of coal.

Contributor Brian Priest Aerial Images created this beautiful nighttime aerial tour of one of the largest football (soccer) stadiums in the United Kingdom.  The Stadium of Light is based Sunderland, a suburb of Newcastle in the heart of the rabid UK football culture in North East England.  The 49,000 seat stadium is the home of the Sunderland A.F.C., which plays in League One of the English Football League.  The stadium is the eighth largest overall in the United Kingdom by seating capacity.

Newcastlemale used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 to create this amazing aerial video of Lindisfarne, a tidal island off of England's Northumberland coast.  It's also called Holy Island, in reference to the critical role it played in the conversion of northern England to Christianity.  Famously, a Viking raid here in 897 AD marked the first serious appearance of the Norsemen and sent shockwaves throughout Europe.  The island's 16th century castle was used as a filming location for two Roman Polanski-directed movies.

Hadrian's Wall is probably the single most important relic of Roman rule of England, as well as the largest intact set of Roman ruins anywhere.  It was built in the second century AD as a defensive fortification "protecting" England from attacks from the land now known as Scotland.  It extends from the Irish Sea in the west to the North Sea in the east.  In this drone video by Newcastlemale, you'll get a bird's eye view of this magnificent structure, which runs just to the south of the present-day Scottish border.

Top contributor Newcastlemale created this spectacular drone video of an area in the far north of England, near the Scottish border.  It's called Cheviot Hills, a small mountain range which sits on both side of the historical border area (no longer an international border since the English and Scottish Crowns merged in 1707).  The mountains and formations here resulted from volcanic activity many millions of years ago, and make for some of the most magnificent natural scenery in Northern England.

Contributor Newcastlemale used a DJI Mavic Pro 2 drone to create this magnificent aerial tour of England's famous Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland, one of the main counties of the North East England region.  Built on the foundation of an 11th century Norman fortification, the castle was the site of a key siege in 1464 during the War of the Roses.  In more recent times, the castle has made numerous appearances in feature movies, ranging from the 1961 classic El Cid to the 2015 film adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth.

Check out this beautiful drone video of a quaint harbor town in Northern England, compliments of contributor and pilot Newcastlemale.  Amble is a town of about 6,000 on the North Sea coastline of Northumberland, the county which covers the northeastern corner of England.  It's an easy drive north of the Newcastle-upon-Tyne area, the largest urban center of Northumberland.  At one point, the harbor of Amble was important for the transport of coal out of the nearby Northumberland coal fields.

Top contributor newcastlemale created this excellent aerial view of some well known hills in North East England.  The Simonside Hills are situated in Northumberland, the northernmost county on England's eastern side.  The hills are easily accessible from the town of Rothbury, in the middle of the county and northwest of the city of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.  The hills are popular with climbers throughout the region, with the highest one (Tosson Hill) reaching a peak elevation of about 440 meters (around 1.4k ft.).

Contributor newcastlemale created this beautiful drone video of a famous fortification in northern England called Dunstanburgh Castle.  It's located in a strategic spot on the coast of Northumberland, the northernmost of the English counties.  Dunstanburgh was constructed by a powerful nobleman in the 14th century but soon fell under Crown control.  The fortress played an important role in the 15th-century dynastic struggle known as the War of the Roses, coming under siege on multiple occasions.

It's not common, but sometimes entire post-secondary institutions abandon their campuses.  One such example is the Ushaw College, a one-time Catholic seminary in County Durham in Northeast England.  Founded in 1808, it become the main training ground for priests in northern England.  The college made it to the two century mark before being forced to close in 2011.  Closed, but not forgotten.  As you'll see in this drone video by johnisonline, abandoned places can provide great bird's eye views of the past.

Check out this beautiful drone video of Saltburn-by-the-Sea in northern England, compliments of contributor Aerial Video Works.  The seaside town lies in Redcar and Cleveland, the portion of North Yorkshire which is now part of the North East England region.  The area came to the fore in the 1800's for its iron ore resources, which helped to fuel the UK's steel industry during the second phase of the Industrial Revolution.  Now it's a quaint seaside town and a popular getaway for residents of the cities of the region.

Check out this brilliant 4k aerial view of England's famous Alnwick Castle, compliments of top AirVuz contributor and drone pilot newcastlemale.  It's located in its namesake town, about 45 minutes north of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in Northumberland, England's northeasternmost county.  The structure originally dates to the late 11th century, just a few decades after the Norman Conquest.  It's appeared in numerous TV shows and feature movies, ranging from Downton Abbey to the first two installments of the Harry Potter Series.

Middlesborough is one of the main cities in the urban agglomeration known as Teesside, which centered on the mouth of the Tees River in northern England.  It's in the northern part of North Yorkshire, which is part of the North East England (rather than Yorkshire and the Umber) region of the UK.  In this drone video by Aerial Video Works, you'll get a bird's eye view of one of Middlesborough's landmarks - the 35k seat Riverside Stadium, home of the second-tier Middlesbrough Football Club and opened in 1995.

The town is situated roughly in the middle of the coast of Northumbria.  Alnmouth is located just a few km/mi from Alnwick, home of one of the more famous English castles.   The town of Alnmouth saw its fortunes as a commercial port and fishing center decline in the early 19th century; since being connected to the railway system it's become a popular seaside getaway destination.

Contributor Brian Priest Aerial Images created this aerial look at the seaside town of Roker in North East England.  It's situated on the North Sea coast just north of the city of Sunderland in the Tyne & Wear region.  Much of the video is shot around the town's harbor.  An outer harbor was created in the mid-19th century with the two curved breakwaters you'll see in the video.  You'll also see the distinctive red-striped lighthouse at the head of the pier; it was opened in 1903 and is still operational.

Raby Castle is one of the most well-preserved medieval era castles in the northern part of England.  Seen in this drone video by contributor John768T, it's located near the town of Staindrop in County Durham.  The original structure was built during the 14th century by the nobleman John Neville, 3rd Baron Neville.  Later owned by Henry Vane the Elder, an advisor to King Charles I, the castle is home to numerous famous paintings collected over the years by the Vane family, membes of whom also made significant structural alternations.

GAME OF DRONES UK brings us this excellent drone video of the Penshaw Monument, a famous landmark in England's County Durham, part of the North UK's East England region.  Buit in the 1840's, the monument commemorates John Lambton, 1st Earl of Durham, a British politician who went on to become the Governor General of British North America which then included Canada.  Designed in the style of a Greek temple, the building was extensively renovated in the 1980's.  Fully lit up at night, it's visible up to 80 km (around 50 mi.) away.

Check out this drone video of a well-known modern sculpture in northern England, compliments of contributor GAME OF DRONES UK.  It's called the Angel of the North, and it's in the town of Gateshead on the south bank of the River Tyne near Newcastle, the largest city in the North East England region.  Designed by sculptor Anthony Gormley, it was completed in 1998.  The structure stands 20 meters (66 ft.) tall.  It was designed to commemorate the area's coal mining heritage and also its shift away from smokestack industries.

Berwick-upon-Tweed is the northernmost town in England.  Often referred to simply as "Berwick", it's located at the mouth of the River Tweed in County Northumbria, just a few km/mi from the Scottish border.  Once part of the medieval Kingdom of Northumbria, the town played a critical role in the bloody struggles between England and Scotland which raged over the centuries prior to the Unification of 1707.  In this piece, new contributor Mike Robinson gives us a beautiful aerial view of this historic town.

If you look at the North Sea coastline of North East England on a map, there is a small peninsula which forms the northern side of Whitley Bay, a bit to the north of the mouth of the River Tyne.  At the tip of this peninsula is a small sandbar of an island called St. Mary's Island.  The most prominent landmark on the island is the iconic St. Mary's Lighthouse.  Commissioned in 1898 and closed in 1984, it's now open to the public.  You can check out this Grade II listed landmark from above in this drone video by top contributor newcastlemale.

Here's a nice aerial view of the beautiful coast of Northumberland, the northernmost of the English counties.  The focus of the video is the magnificent Bamburgh Castle, one of the finest in England.  Located just south of the Scottish border, the 11th century Norman fortress (built on the site of an Anglo-Saxon fortification) became the first casualty of early-modern artillery when it was captured during the War of the Roses in 1464.  Now open to the public, it's a Grade I Historical Listing.
