Multiple Drone Video of the Week Winner Mahhorov brings us this stunning drone video of one of the virtually unknown natural wonders of Russia: a lake in southwestern Siberia which turns pink for a period each year.  Lake Burlinskoye is located near Bursol, in the province of Altai Krai.  The change of hue is due to the presence of micro-organisms in the lake, which is one of a number of lakes near the border with Kazakhstan which exhibit this phenomenon.  The pink phase generally lasts a few weeks in late summer. This video was a DVOW nominee in September 2020.

Iran's Shrinking Lake Urmia

Iran's Lake Urmia

Lake Urmia is a saltwater lake in northern Iran.  It's near the northwesternmost corner of the country, with its northern end not far from the border with Turkey and the southern end not far from the Iraqi border.  It was once the sixth largest saltwater lake in the world.  However, due to damming in the area, the lake is a shadow of its former self, having shrunk to about 1/10 of its original size.  Contributor Zinhaghighi used a drone to create an amazing aerial view of this once-mighty body of water.

Hood, Oregon's tallest mountain. Trillium Lake is known for its glass-like reflective surface which can create a near-perfect mirror image of the mountain, one of the USA's most prominent. At about the 1:50 mark in the video, you'll see a great example of this phenomenon. This video was a DVOW finalist in October, 2019.
