Schloss Pillnitz is a well-known palace on the River Elbe in Dresden, Germany. Originally constructed in the 14th century, the palace served as the summer residence for the electors and kings of Saxony, the once-independent German kingdom which roughly coincides with the modern state of the same name. The castle was rebuilt in the Baroque style in the early 18th century, and the English-style garden was added later in the century. In this drone video by Mischa Haubold, you can see the famous palace decked out for the Christmas holiday.

Check out this magnificent drone video of Dresden, Germany, compliments of Arturas Orlauskas. The capital of the northern state of Saxony, Dresden is built on the banks of the Elbe River. Home to some of the most well-known Baroque architecture in Europe, the city was heavily damaged in the waning months of World War II during a still-controversial bombing raid which destroyed much of the old city and killed at least 25,000 civilians; the bombing was immortalized in Kurt Vonnegut's classic 1969 novel, Slaughterhouse-Five.
