Mexico, formally known as the United Mexican States, is the largest Spanish speaking country in the world and the second largest country in Latin America by population. The country features a long border with the United States, extensive coastlines on the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, and borders with several Central American countries. The resort city lies on the eastern (Caribbean Sea) side of the Yucatán Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo. Cancún was virtually unknown until the 1970's, when the Mexican government launched an investment program to create a new planned resort city. The dormant (but not extinct) volcano is situated on the Trans-Mexican Volcanic belt that defines so much of the geography of the country. The mountain's peak stands about 5.6k meters (about 18.5k) ft. above sea level, making it the third highest peak in North America. Orizaba is the world's second most prominent volcanic peak.

Top contributor Postandfly created this fascinating drone video of one of the geological wonders of Mexico: the Parícutin volcano. Located in the state of Michoacán, it's one of the world's most famous cinder cone volcanoes, a subtype which arises from eruptions through a single vent that's usually part of a larger volcano. Parícutin was born in an eruption that began in 1943 and continued for about nine years, although this type of volcano will not erupt again. This video won DVOW in August, 2019.
