Hightning ...

Linithgow Palace is one of the most important castles in the Lowlands of Scotland.  It's located on Loch Linithgow, a bit south of the Firth of Forth and a somewhat further distance west of Edinburgh. Originally a utilitarian fortress, it was rebuilt as a royal palace in the 15th century and was the birthplace of Mary, Queen of Scots. It fell into disuse following the unification of the English and Scottish crowns in 1603.  The castle was burned during the 18th century Jacobite Rebellion and was never re-occupied.
