Drone Video of the Week Nominee in Frankfurt
DVA nominated contributor Haussmannvisuals does it again with this stunning drone video of Frankfurt, Germany. Situated on the Main River in the west-central part of the country, Frankfurt is Germany's financial capital and the second most important European financial center after London. The video does a phenomenal job of capturing the vertical architecture of this gleaming city, including the Europaturm TV Tower, Commerzbank Tower, and the European Central Bank headquarters building. This video was a DVOW nominee in April 2019.
Germany Compilation Video
Germany is a country of glitz and grit and AirVuz compiled the best views of the country into one drone video. Drone footage shows the vibrant culture and modern landmarks in the capital city, Berlin. See the centuries-old buildings in Munich, a city famous for its annual Oktoberfest celebrations. Aerial views of Frankfurt show its location on the river Main. And straight out of a fairytale, Neuschwanstein Castle nestled in the Bavarian alps looks beautiful from above.
Berlin: Germany's Capital
The German capital Berlin was arguably the most important city in the world in the 20th century. It was the capital of Germany when the country plunged into World Wars I-II, and was (in divided form) the likely flash point for a World War III which (fortunately) did not occur. Berlin is now the capital of a country which is one of the pillars of international peace and stability. Hamburg: Germany's Second City
The port city of Hamburg in northern Germany is one of the keys to the country's export-oriented economy. The city is home to the largest German Seaport and the second largest in the entire European Union. Lying on a river about 110 km (around 70 mi) upstream from the North Sea, the city is the core of a metropolitan area of about 5 million, the second largest in Germany after Berlin. New Entertainment Pictures created this magnificent drone video of the great city on the River Elbe.
The Magnificent Bavarian Alps
The area of the Alps Mountains located in southern Germany is often called the Bavarian Alps. It is home to some of the most amazing natural scenery in Germany, as well as its highest mountain peak: Mt. Zugspitze, which stands at just under 3k meters (around 9.7k ft.). In this video, contributor BashirAbuShakra used a drone to create an aerial tour of this landscape including footage of Berchtesgadener, St. Bartholomä, Jenner, Lake Obersee, Hintersee, and more.
Germany's Fairytale Castle
Behold this amazing aerial video of Neuschwanstein, one of the world's most famous castles. This Romanesque Revival masterpiece was completed in 1886 as a retreat for the then-King of Bavaria, a kingdom which had become part of the German Empire. Famously, the castle inspired the Sleeping Beauty castles at the Disney theme parks. It's also served as a shooting location for numerous feature movies, notably as Baron Bomburst's castle in the 1968 hit Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Rhineland-Palatinate: Cochem Castle
Cochem Castle, built in the 12th century, lies on the Moselle River in the Rhineland area of western Germany. It is cradled on a hilltop that offers panoramic views of Cochem village and the surrounding landscape of the Rhineland-Palatinate state. Contributor Stefan Beumer flew his drone over the castle and the village, creating this spectacular aerial view of the magnificent landmark, which was destroyed in the 17th century and rebuilt in the 19th.
Frankfurt: Germany's Financial Capital
Contributor Haussmannvisuals put together this magnificent compilation of aerial footage of Frankfurt in western Germany. The city was settled in Roman times, and became one of the most important free cities in the Holy Roman Empire. Absorbed into Germany in the 1860's, it ceded financial leadership to Berlin, but regained it following Germany's reunification. The video features impressive aerial footage of the central business district on the Main River as well as the upstream ECB headquarters.
Lichtenstein and Hohenzellorn Castles
Contributor Stefan Beumer used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this aerial view of two of Europe's most famous Gothic Revival castles, both of which are located in southwestern Germany. The first, Lichtenstein Castle, was completed in 1842 on the site of an 11th century castle. The second, Hohenzellorn Castle, also built on the site of an earlier structure, was completed in 1867. It was the ancesteral seat of the Hohenzellorn family, which ruled Prussia and then all of Germany until 1918.
Munich: Bavaria's Capital City
New Entertainment pictures created this magnificent aerial tour of Munich, Germany's third largest city (after Berlin and Hamburg) and the capital of the state of Bavaria. Situated just north of the Bavarian Alps, Munich has the best natural scenery of any of the large German cities. An important center for German culture, Munich hosted the 1972 Summer Olympics, which were tragically marred by a notorious act of terrorism against the Israeli wrestling team.
Germany's Black Forest
Daniel Gavrilas used a GoPro Karma drone to give us this beautiful aerial view of the Black Forest. Situated in the southwestern corner of Germany, it is the source countless children's fairytales. The Black Forest marks the divide between the two great river systems of Central Europe: the Rhine River basin to its west and the Danube River basin to its east. As can be seen in the video, these forest-covered mountains are interspersed with idyllic small German towns.
Swabia: Spring in Algau
Algau is a region of Swabia in the far south of Bavaria, Germany, near the border with Austria. Its landscape transitions from the foothills of the Alps to the great range itself. It is a place of stunning snow covered mountain peaks, alpine lakes, and fairy tale forests. Top contributor and drone pilot Eye-Catchography flew a drone over the area just as winter was ebbing and spring was beginning to bloom. The aerial video, captured at the most beautiful time of year, is simply breathtaking.
Cologne: #1 City of North-Rhine-Westphalia
Contributor Yekalay used a DJI Mavic Pro drone to create this aerial tour of Cologne, the most populous city in Germany's Rhineland region and the home of one of the world's most famous cathedrals. The city is situated on the middle Rhine River in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, between Dusseldorf and Bonn . With its massive industrial base, Cologne was one of the biggest targets of Allied bombing in World War II; the Cathedral was hit 14 times and required massive postwar repair.
Aerial Tour of Bavaria
Bavaria is the largest state in Germany, occupying most of the southern part of the country. It's the largest of the German states by land area and second largest in population. In terms of physical scenery, most would agree that Bavaria has the most spectacular in the country. In this amazing video, top contributor Vitali flies a drone over Bavaria, affording us amazing aerial views of the Bavarian Alps, mountain valleys, shimmering alpine lakes, and the glorious city of Munich, Bavaria's largest.
Contributor Frankiez used his DJI Mavic Pro Drone to create this lovely aerial view of the medieval city of Heidelberg, in the Baden-Wurtemberg state of southwestern Germany. You'll get a marvelous bird's eye view of Heidelberg Castle, built in the 13th century and one of the most famous castles in Europe. In 1622, Heidelberg was the site of an important battle during the early part of the Thirty Years War, in which the Spanish Imperial Army led by the Count of Tilly beseiged and overcame the city.
Düsseldorf: City on the Rhine
Dusseldorf is the capital city of North-Rhine-Westphalia, a state in western Germany. The state's second largest city after Cologne, it is both a manufacturing center and a hub for international trade, particularly in fashion. Situated on the mighty Rhine River, it is also home to many important German educational institutions. Top contributor Alex Assenmacher used a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone to create a bird's eye view of this city in the heart of the Rhineland.
Wendelstein: Germany's Top Ski Resort
Wendelstein is a medium sized mountain peak in Bavaria, the southernmost region of Germany. It is part of the Mangfall Mountains, which form part of the Alps Mountain system. The mountain's peak is about 1.8k meters (just over 6k ft.) above sea level. While not the largest ski area in Germany, Wendelstein does have one area for highly experienced skiers. Contributor On Focus used a DJI Phantom drone to give us a beautiful aerial tour of this alpine paradise.
Regensburg is the fourth largest city in Bavaria, Germany's southernmost state. It's most prominent landmark is the Regensburg Cathedral, a 16th century structure in the old city center on the Danube River. The cathedral escaped serious damage from a famous (and ultimately unsuccessful) Allied strategic bombing raid on Regensburg's aircraft factory in August, 1943, during the height of World War II. Stuttgart: Capital of Baden-Württemberg
New Entertainment Pictures created this beautiful aerial view of Stuttgart, the capital of the Baden-Württemberg state in southwestern Germany. With a population of about 600,000, it's the sixth largest city in the country. Stuttgart was the home of car inventor Karl Benz, and is considered the cradle of the automobile industry. Watch the video to get epic bird's eye views of this amazing city, including shots of the Stuttgart 21 development, the opera house, and the Schlossplatz square.
Rhineland Cities: Duisburg and Oberhausen
Using a DJI Phantom 3 Pro drone, Oggy created this beautiful aerial video of Duisburg and Oberhausen, two important cities of Germany's North Rhine-Westphalia state, the most populous state in the federation. Duisberg is Germany's 15th largest city. It lies at the confluence of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers in the industrial heartland of the country. Oberhausen, the smaller of the two cities, is situated a bit to the northeast, roughly equidistant from Duisenberg and Essen.
German Industrial Heritage Site
FreakinTim created this amazing drone video of one of the most important sites of German industrial history. The Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex is near Essen, Germany, in the heart of the country's Rhineland region. The plant shown in the video turned coal from the nearby coal mine to coke, a critical ingredient for making steel. At one point, it was the largest coking operation in the world, and was a vital component of Germany's steelmaking industry.
Cyber_drone used a DJI Phantom 4 drone to create this beautiful aerial of Lake Constance in Central Europe. The lake, which is part of the Rhine River, sits in Germany (Bavaria), Austria, and Switzerland. With a surface area of about 535 square km (just over 200 square mi.), it's one of the largest lakes in Europe. It's also one of the deepest, with a maximum depth of 90 meters (around 300 ft.). It's also one of the world's greatest boating lakes, with over 50k watercraft registered as of 2018.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: Schweriner Palace
Contributor Reibimei used a DJI Phantom 4 drone to create this aerial video of Schweiner, an important city in northern Germany. Schweiner is the capital of the state of the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which occupies the northereastern corner of the country. The most important cultural landmark of Schweiner is its castle, known variously as Schweiner Castle or Schweiner Palace. The castle, which is the centerpiece of the video, sits on one of the lakes surrounding the city.

This reel is all about action, ranging from epic car races to thrilling chase scenes that resemble something from a James Bond Movie. This video won the Reels category at the second annual Drone Video Awards.
The Supreme Parish and Collegiate Church in Berlin, aka the Berlin Dom, is one of the most recognized sites in the German capital city. It was built in 1905, when Berlin was at the peak of its imperial splendor under Kaiser Wilhelm II. In this video, content creator Raf Neo used a DJI MAvic Pro drone to create an aerial tour of this amazing structure in the Museum Island area of the city, which was in the Western sector and surrounded by the Berlin Wall for decades.

Bastei: Saxony's Famous Rock Formation
Contributor Koorosh used a DJI Phantom 4 drone to create this spectacular aerial video of one of the most impressive rock formations in Germany. The Bastei is situated in the state of Saxony in what had been East Germany prior to reunification. The tops of the rocks are almost 200 meters (over 650 ft.) above the Elbe River, in the Elbe Sandstone Mountains. The Bastei are one of the major outdoor tourist attractions in eastern Germany, easily accessible from nearby Dresden.
